Party Rock Tour: I’m In Des Moines Bitch

What happens in Des Moines stays in Des Moines. At least, let’s hope so. Last night got unexpectedly wild.

I have to say Des Moines is a pretty cool city. Not only do they have a Skywalk that allows you to walk above the city without being freezing cold, they have some of the nicest and most loyal LMFAO fans we’ve seen to date.

Last night’s show was at People’s Court, a third-story venue in a building also inhabited by a sports bar and a nightclub. Like the majority of our tour stops to date, the show was sold out. Girls were rocking “I’m In Iowa Bitch” shirts and, for the first time, it seemed that the audience had almost as many guys as it did girls.

Early in the show, someone flung a giant, glittery stuffed microphone onstage, as well as a pair of sunglasses. “Who out there has lenses in their glasses?” Foo asked as Sky popped out the lenses and put on the frames.

Some highlights included Sky pulling on a werewolf mask to do the howl in “Scream My Name” and Shwayze’s DJ Jason Smith knocking over our set. I’m not sure how it happened, but I looked over to see him keeling over with laughter as the black curtain that stretches behind our light-up screen randomly dangled in the background.

Despite a leak that drenched those of us backstage, it was a stellar show. Toward the end of the performance, Foo said that he wanted to do something really special that involved the entire audience.

“It’s my dad’s birthday today,” he said. “His name is Berry. I’d like to have everyone sing Happy Birthday to him.” Every fan in the audience, as well as the whole Party Rock Crew joined in to sing Happy Birthday to Foo’s father (and Sky’s grandfather), Berry Gordy.

After the show, a couple of us decided to do a little Des Moines pub crawl. Despite the fact that we stood out like sore thumbs in our Party Rock gear in a sea of Iowa State sweatshirts, everyone showed us a great deal of midwestern hospitality.

At the Liars Club, which is the bar right below the venue, we met some LMFAO fans that bought us shots. The girls told us what a great time they had at the show and we talked about the tour and how we got involved with the boys before they proceeded to buy us what appeared to be triple shots (or full glasses) of grape bombs (grape vodka and Red Bull).

We slept for approximately half an hour before hitting the road. The boys are on their way back to LA to appear on the George Lopez show and celebrate Thanksgiving with their families; Bikini Girl, Party Rock merch guy Daniel, the bus driver Jeff, our lighting guy Reggie, our van driver Harold and I stayed behind and we’re currently on our way to Detroit. We just stopped in a random town in Michigan to stock up on Thanksgiving essentials. Bikini Girl and I are going to cook a Thanksgiving feast on the road. It should be interesting...

Stay tuned for more from the Party Rock Tour. Hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving.

Yo- if you guys can go to Des Moines, why not come to Oklahoma City?
I mean- Oklahoma City isn't much, but it's bigger than Des Moines, and way cooler.

You guys got a free place to stay (provided you have no problems with dogs), and I guarantee you could sell out a lot of clubs here.
