Party Rock Tour: I’m Up In Charlotte Bitch
“This one’s for North Caroliiiina...”
Charlotte is an interesting place with a whole lot of southern hospitality. I have to hand it to the crowd at tonight’s show at the Fillmore for handling the unexpected twists and turns with grace and enthusiasm.
Backtracking a bit, Foo did a phone interview with Backslash Magazine, a Florida-based college publication today. It was interesting listening in while he talked for an hour about the Party Rock Crew, how we all got involved and what inspired him to become an entrepreneur in creating not just a music group with Sky, but an entire enterprise that includes a publishing company and a fashion line. He even talked about plans for a Party Rock cruise, which I imagine would be something like our tour bus at sea with twice as much drinking and much warmer weather.
While I was on the line, I climbed into the cab from hell. The driver took off like a speeding bullet, all the while hanging out the window, screaming at some dude going the wrong direction on a one-way street.
“I’ll run you over, you stupid asshole!” he shouted. “If I didn’t have passengers, I would hit your car to make some money!”
He turned to us and said, “I was a paramedic and we’d have some stupid people laying all up on the ground and I’d be like, ‘Ain’t nothing wrong with you! Get yo dumb ass up and into the ambulance.”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
We finally made it to the venue, where we all hung out in out in the green room. Foo’s cousin was there, as well as diehard fans Kirk and Kait, who travel from Georgia to LMFAO shows all over the South and Amy Dren of Social The Magazine, who interviewed the boys for an insightful piece that you can view both in print and online (check out http://www.socialthemagazine.com).
We were in a rush to get the boys onstage, but things got held up a bit because Foo had to take a dump. The entire Party Rock Crew waited while Pete filmed what was going down in the bathroom. As we all put our hands in to do our pre-show chant, Foo informed everyone that he didn’t wash his hands. “OK, wait, I did wash them, but I just didn’t use soap,” he said. Naturally, his hands were on both mine and Q’s.
“This is the hypest crowd we’ve ever seen!” Sky announced to the audience after just the first song. The crowd was going crazy. They went even more nuts when Sky introduced “Get Crazy” by mentioning that it’s the theme song for the new delightfully tacky show “Jersey Shore.”
Despite some sound issues, the show went on. It was impressive how everyone stepped up--DJ Air played “Paranoid” instead of “Bounce” and Sky chugged Goose and did all kinds of crazy antics to keep the audience entertained while Foo flailed around, handling the situation (seriously, I don’t know how he does it, but he truly does it all. It’s amazing).
“Let me take ya’ll to Party Rock Church because the sound guy needs a prayer!” Sky said. The audience roared with applause, chanting, “Fix it! Fix it!” They kept laughing, though, and they never gave up. The crowd was high energy the entire time.
Thank you, Charlotte, for being a stand-up crowd. We can’t wait to come back.
