Party Rock Tour: I’m In New Orleans Bitch (and Pensacola Bitch)
On our way to New Orleans (or Nawlins, as the locals call it), we stopped in Pensacola, Florida for what turned out to be one of the most amazing spots on the tour to date.
We didn’t have a show scheduled--instead, it was a happy hour event at a spot called Suite. At 5 p.m., we popped in for what we thought was going to be an early evening with a few drinks. It turned into an insane night at the club. Who ever thought we’d be clubbing at 5 p.m.? By 7, everyone was drunk. DJ Air was was spinning the entire Party Rock album, as well as remixes. Pensacola local, the Krazy Russian, an old friend of Foo and Sky’s, came out. We also celebrated “Party Rock ambassador” Daniel (Danglin’ D)’s annual 21st birthday.
After the club, we brought the party to Chili’s for Daniel’s birthday dinner and then to the the bus. It was 11 when we started dozing off, when that’s the time we typically start going out.
The evening concluded with Foo busting out of the back room with no pants...or underwear.
“That had to be the most fun night we had all year,” he said.
We arrived in New Orleans at 4 a.m. and some of us started drinking around noon. This city is famous for its Hand Grenades, rumored to be one of the strongest drinks in the world, but the really cool thing about Nawlins is that you can drink in the streets. In true Party Rock fashion, we brought our drinks with us into multiple stores, restaurants and cabs.
After exploring the city (and experiencing some Nawlins gumbo and po boys), it’s clear that this city loves its music, art, football, food, booze and women--the finest things in life. It’s probably one of the greatest cities in the country.
When Foo, Daniel and I got to the venue, the House of Blues, for soundcheck, the door guy told us that we were close to selling out and, if we did, we’d make their infamous wall of fame--a huge area on the way to the green room featuring the names of all of the bands that sold out shows at that venue. Among the names were greats like Bob Dylan.
When we got back to the venue, we found out that the show sold out. I can’t wait to come back and see “LMFAO” up on that wall.
I was curious as to what the Nawlins crowd would be like--it was a pretty young crowd with a lot of energy and a random old man in the middle, sipping on a drink. I’d like to give a shout-out to my favorite audience member, a guy repping my Philadelphia Flyers in a cap in the front row. He knew every word and was pop, lock and dropping it throughout the whole show.
Between “I’m In New Orleans Bitch” and “What Happens At The Party”, the entire audience launched into the “Who Dat” chant. Foo and Sky immediately joined in. The chant goes, “Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?” It refers to the football team, the New Orleans Saints, of course, but there’s a really cool history behind the chant. It started back in the 1800s. “Boom Boom Pow” got even crazier than usual with Sky stripping off his shirt and Foo dumping a Corona all over Q’s face. Cobra Starship came to the show and joined everyone onstage for “Yes”, as well.
This city never sleeps, so it’s off to experience a new drink called the Jester on Bourbon Street. We head out to H-Town in two hours!
